Calibre is a man of intrigue both inside and outside the world of Drum and Bass. Born Dominick Martin, he hails from Ireland and is one of the DJ’s that is credited with popularizing Liquid within the Drum and Bass scene. His style is often called Liquid Drum and Bass, because of the smooth and undulating rhythms that uses to tie his compositions together, making the music “flow” unlike the precision, and mechanical timing found in most other forms of Drum and Bass.
Because of his more loose, and organic approach to Drum and Bass, Martin is high sought after for remixes, and production work both within, and outside of the scene of Drum and Bass. However, up until the mid 2000’s Martin’s work was nigh impossible to find. A traditionally private person, Martin maintained no personal website, music site, fan page, social media presence, etc… and only began engaging those things reluctantly.
This might be why his music has never reached a larger scale of appeal outside of the world of Drum and Bass. Because Dominick just prefers it that way. He can still be caught DJing from time to time, and continues to put out records on his own label Signature Records, and he seems just fine with his current level of notoriety.
