Gregor Tresher is dedicated to DJing. As a producer, he strives — first and foremost — to make music to be played out at nightclubs and parties. The German disc jockey has been at DJing and producing music for over twenty years. Since creating Beatport’s best-selling track “A Thousand Nights” back in 2008, Tresher has been doing just that, but on his latest album, he changed perspective.
The new album, “Lights from the Inside”, has some tracks that are sure to be dance club favorites, but that’s not all it has or all it’s aimed at. “Lights from the Inside” is intricate and meticulously put together. It gives its audience something new with each listen. The melodies are longer and more in-depth than some of house and trance’s more common hit songs and tracks. It’s meant to be listened to on repeat, to take you down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland.
Like a mad-dash first draft of a book, Tresher wrote most of the music on this album in just two months. Then, to get all of the nuances and subtleties just right, he took his time putting it all together, revising it and perfecting it before release.
Tresher’s style is always evolving and always in flux, as can be heard in “Lights from the Inside”. Though it’s definitely danceable, this album has a decidedly melancholy feel to it. Tresher is heavily influenced by The Cure’s Disintegration. He strives to create a similar all-powerful, all-encompassing environment in his music for the listener.
Gregor Tresher started DJing in the early 1990s in Frankfurt. Since then, he’s blown up all over the world, touring Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States. You can find him spinning in DJ booths everywhere from Tokyo to Los Angeles, Sydney to Berlin, and back again.
