When two long-standing, award-winning DJs get together, you know something’s about to pop, and that’s exactly what happened to form Jack Beats. This dynamic duo is made up of Beni G (Ben Geffin) and DJ Plus One (Niall Dailly).
Geffin hails from London and has garnered longtime respect for his work as one half of The Mixologists. Dailly, from Scotland, has toured extensively with Scratch Perverts, won the 2001 DMC World DJ Championships, and was once a DJ on London’s Kiss Radio.
Jack Beats is the new wave of Brit house music. It’s heavy breaks, a cappellas, wobbly basslines, and more, all mushed, cut, copied, and pasted together to make something larger than the sum of its parts, something danceable, tangible, and new.
Jack Beats is influenced by a huge range of artists and genres, including A Guy Called Gerald, Rage Against the Machine, and Timbaland (but, then again, if you’re not into Timbaland, what are you doing in the electronic music world, right?). They pull from genres as diverse as drum and bass, hip hop, house, dubstep, rave, and garage rock.
The duo’s first release, in 2008, was a mind-blowing remix of Boy 8-Bit’s “Fogbank”, and it garnered them a lot of attention. Shortly thereafter, they collaborated with Deekline and Wizard, remixed Trip’s “Who’s That?”, and more. They’ve been so prolific and spot-on with their remixes that they’ve very quickly transcended their old statuses as single DJs to become a hit-producing powerhouse together. Everyone’s watching what Jack Beats is doing.
Jack Beats puts together everything dance club goers love about house, dubstep, and drum and bass. Their sound is glitched out but danceable, wobbly with heavy drops, but melodic. Their a capella riffs throw in just enough of a break to bring it all back and keep booties shaking on the dance floor.
