As a sign of the power of the Internet, we have Madeon. At age 11, Madeon (real name, Hugo Pierre Leclereq) began producing trance and hands-up. He continued this for five years until in 2010, when he switched to house music, winning a remix competition hosted by Pendulum in the same year.
The following year, Madeon became a worldwide sensation when a YouTube video of his mash-up “Pop Culture” went viral. The clip showed him using a Novaton Launchpad to mix samples from 39 songs on on-the-fly, and within a couple of days it had more than 6 million views.
Since then, Madeon has been featured on the BBC a number of times, debuting his single “Icarus” and a remix of “Raise Your Weapon” by Deadmau5. In 2012, he was invited to perform at some of the largest festivals in the United States, including Coachella, the Ultra Music Festival, Lollapalooza, and the Electric Daisy Carnival. He’s opened for Swedish House Mafia and toured as an opener for Lady Gaga. Currently, he is assisting with the production on Lady Gaga’s new album.
