DJ Miss Joy’s hometown is Seattle, but at just twenty years old, she packed up and made the move to Las Vegas. Since her move, she’s been getting booties shaking on dance floors since 2002, when she played her first show at Rain at the Palms Hotel. She loves Las Vegas because, as a huge tourism hub and travel destination, people come from all over the world to see her, while she stays in one place, honing her craft.
Miss Joy has won more than a few awards for her prowess on the turntables, including the $10,000 first place prize in the National Lampoon Tours DJ Battle. In addition to spinning tracks and beats, Joy is deep into nonprofit and charity work. She started her Human Experience project in 2008, and she’s also the Jump for Joy Foundation’s musical director.
She started Human Experience as a way to further connect with the people in her community, as it’s often hard to connect on a personal level in a loud club, especially from behind the DJ booth. The Jump for Joy Foundation is dedicated to fighting childhood obesity. For her part as musical director, she says, “I play music for the kids and build up the energy in the room… You really need music to set the mood for any type of physical event, because it gets your heart going and keeps you interested,”.
Miss Joy is driven, in equal parts, by music and connecting and communicating with people. For her, music is fun, and she wants to bring its enjoyment to as many people, all over the world, as she can. Through philanthropy, she gives back to the community by bringing her joy and her music to others.
