Born Peter Dalton in Nottingham, United Kingdom, MistaJam is a DJ and radio personality in Britain. On BBC Radio 1, he has a weekly “Saturday Night Soundclash” show, featuring UK funk, grime, hip-hop, house, reggae dancehall, and dubstep.
Dalton began his DJ career when he was just fourteen years old, DJing for Out Da Ville, a Nottingham hip hop crew. At the same time, he got his start with radio presenting by doing a local pirate radio program. He also organized and promoted a lot of hip-hop events, like the UK Takeover.
Currently, his BBC Radio 1 show is simulcast on BBC’s Radio 1Xtra for Saturday night urban music strands. In 2010, he worked with Adidas Originals, hosting a video diary of the Glastonbury Festival. This included his own set in the East Dance Tent.
His show on BBC Two, “No Hats, No Trainers” – which refers to the strictly enforced dress codes at some dance clubs, and which you’ll hear repeated over and over by bouncers upon entry – aired in May and has received rave reviews and has been green-lighted for a second series.
MistaJam is no stranger to collaborations. He’s been featured on the Knife Party track “Sleaze”, singing, “Until they kick us out, until they kick us out, until they kick us out, people move your feet,”.
All of this is in keeping with MistaJam’s dedication to all things electronica. He’s been on top of several genres for years and continues to be a tastemaker in EDM around the world. Since 2011, he’s offered a free weekly Dubstep Download to go with his record of the week and weekly DJ guest mixes on his BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra show. He adds to the world of EDM every single week.
