Modeselektor is a digital music group established in Berlin, which features musicians Sebastian Szary and Gernot Bronsert. The team pulls heavily from glitch, hip hop, electro-house and IDM. In a dialog the duo they mentioned concerning their tone the defined it as Russian crunk, country-ambient, hard rap and happy metal. In other words, the duo does not want to be defined as a particular style. Rather, they are an aggregation of many styles that you cannot quite put your finger on.
Nevertheless, Szary and Bronsert first crossed paths in ’92 in Berlin with group member Szary carrying out live acid house music at prohibited subterranean functions. The team states, “After the Wall dropped, all over the place in Germany and particularly East Germany there is lots of turmoil, anarchy.” Both quickly teamed up and started making music beneath the handle “Fundamental Knowledge”.
In ’96 the pair renamed themselves Modeselektor. Modeselektor was a moniker extracted from on of the functions of a piece of music equipment that they utilized for echo effects.
In ’99 Modeselektor entered into its 1st remix agreement and started working alongside Pfadfinderei, a Berlin-based VJ and design group.
In the year 2000 Modeselektor got together with Ellen Allien, and made BPitch Control the label upon which they would release their work.
In March of ’09 they launched a recording with Apparat below the identify of Moderat. They’ve partnered earlier on an album called “Auf Kosten Der Gesundheit” which has been launched for a restricted 12″ on BPitch Control in ’02.
Modeselektor additionally showed up as primary figures in Amy Grill’s ’09 digital music piece which was entitled, “Speaking In Code”.
Modeselektor are considered friends with Siriusmo, and consistently remix and encourage his content.
In August of ’13, Modeselektor released their second record together with Apparat under the moniker Moderat, called II.
