Mt Eden (also called Mt. Eden and previously branded Mt Eden Dubstep) is a New Zealand Dubstep production combo composed of Harley Rayner and Jesse Cooper. Their most well-known tunes are their remix of Delerium’s “Silence, their unique “Sierra Leone” remix, their remix of Delerium’s “Silence” as well as Lisa Miskovsky’s “Still Alive” that is now their most seen track on Youtube.com with over forty million views joined. However, preceding submissions of “Sierra Leone” reach over twenty-nine million views prior to being taken down.
Cooper and Rayner first learned of one another at about twelve years old. Shortly thereafter, the two starting creating mixtapes when they were not in school. Initially, they largely created Rap songs but determined to rather make Dubstep once they listened to Skream and Benga during the New Zealand event Phat09. The duo referred to this experience as mind-blowing. From this point, they started to produce some DnB tracks.
Among the 1st tracks Mt Eden published was “Sierra Leone” that they transferred and published on the Myspace page, but it did not go viral until one of their followers uploaded the track to Youtube.com.
In fact, they began earning recognition once their remixes of Freshlyground’s “Sierra Leone” and “I Had Like”, went viral on YouTube.com back in ’09. In fact, the duo now has 100-million aggregated video views and over 160K subscribers on their YouTube.com channel. This is in addition to over 310K “Likes” on their Facebook page.
Mt Eden is now agreed to a multi-record deal with music label Ultra Music.
Back in 2010 Rayner’s brother proposed he create a YouTube channel for the pair to publish songs on. He named the page “MtEdenDnB08” since they resided in Mt Eden. This is precisely when Rayner and Cooper made a decision to name themselves Mt Eden Dubstep, after shortening the name to just Mt Eden.
