British EDM and dubstep trio Joe Ray and Dan Stephens, and vocalist Alana Watson, Nero began collaborating in 2004, releasing a number of well received tracks. Five years into their career, they remixed “Blinded by the Lights” by the Streets, a track which New Yorker Magazine journalist Sasha Frere-Jones included in his list of the Top Songs of 2009. The song went on to garner inclusion in the playlists of hit DJs, such as Tiestö and Diplo, and received a good amount of radio play in the UK.
In 2011, however, the trio began to receive true exposure when the track “Guilt” was deemed the Hottest Record in the World by BBC radio host Zane Lowe. Later that year, Nero released its first full length Welcome Reality, which debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, and several of the album’s singles went on to receive the Hottest Record treatment from Lowe.
Since then, Nero has released a number of well-received albums and singles, and has produced remixes for Skrillex, Michael Jackson, N.E.R.D featuring Daft Punk, Calvin Harris, and many other standout artists. In 2013, they won a Grammy for Best Remix for their work on Skrillex’s “Promises”.
