American DJ Steve Aoki’s recording career began while studying at UC Santa Barbara, where he produced DIY records and hosted underground concerts out of his apartment (known as the Pickle Patch) in a student housing collective. In 1996, while only in his early 20s, Aoki successfully launched the now-famous record label Dim Mak. The label went on to release albums by electro house artists such as Infected Mushroom, Klaxons, Scanners, and many others.
In 2006, Aoki was inducted onto the board for the Music is a Revolution Foundation, a non-profit group started by bass player Michael Davis of the MC5 that works to provide music education to public schools. Two years later, Aoki’s first mix album came out, Pillowface and His Airplane Chronicles, which found airplay on the BBC.
His latest full length release, Wonderland, became available in 2012, and it featured guests such as LMFAO, Travis Barker, Kid Cudi, Lil Jon, Lovefoxxx, and many others. Over the years, Aoki has remixed tracks for too many artists and bands to count, such as Drake, Jackson 5, Kanye West, All American Rejects, Eminem, the Killers, Lil Wayne, Refused, Snoop Dog, and many, many more. On average, Aoki performs roughly 250 shows per year.
His shows are known for champagne spraying, Caking and the Aoki Jump.
