The now-defunct electronic dance music trio Swedish House Mafia (the members of which are all, predictably, Swedish) has been known for a combination of its chart topping hits and its association with a moment of tragic controversy. Members Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, and Steve Angello came together to form the group in 2008.
After releasing a number of hit tracks, DJ Magazine ranked them No. 10 in its Top 100 DJs Poll of 2011, and the next year they dropped slightly to No. 12. Individually, each member has enjoyed an outstanding solo career. In 2011, Axwell ranked No. 12 out of DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs, Angello ranked No. 23, Ingrosso came in at No. 26, and all of them have released a good number of solo hits.
In June of 2012, Swedish House Mafia announced that it was on its final tour. The following month, while playing to a sold out crowd at Dublin’s Phoenix Park, the festivity of the group’s final tour was overshadowed by a number of random and unprovoked attacks in which nine people were stabbed resulting in one death.
In February of 2013, the group performed in New York to raise proceeds for the Hurricane Sandy relief effort. One month later, they made their final appearance at the Ultra Music Festival.
