The Crystal Method is a USA-based electronic music combo which was formed in Las Vegas by two musicians named Scott Kirkland and Ken Jordan during the early ’90s.
Prior to their success, Scott and Ken began concentrating on songs while earning a living working in a supermarket, while Ken was also a DJ in Vegas and a radio station administrator at UNLV.
However by 1993, both Ken and Scott had relocated from Vegas to LA and purchased a home jointly, in Glendale, California, which had a little subterranean shelter under the front yard.
Initially they planned to convert the small underground space into a recording studio. However, it became an impractical thought and they decided to build the studio inside of their new house and dubbed it “The Bomb Shelter.”
After construction The Bomb Shelter Scott and Ken started recording. Very quickly, their songs made its way across the pond to a UK DJ known as Justin King. Justin King was considering starting up a music label that would present American electronic dance musicians to the public arena. As such, King partnered with Scottish Steve Melrose to make the music record label called “City of Angels.” “Now is The Time” was the very first public launch belonging to the label. However, in 1996 the group was taken over to Outpost Recordings.
The group introduced their bestselling record, Vegas, on September 8th of 1997. Vegas actually peaked at No. 92 on Billboard. It managed to reach Gold certification status way of RIAA in 1998 and hit Platinum status in 2007.
In 1999, the group went in the recording studio to capture their subsequent studio album, Tweekend, which showcased more guest musicians than Vegas had. The recording was launched in July 2001, and actually peaked at No. 32 on Billboard that is even now the group’s maximum record chart ranking.
Showcased friends in the record consisted of Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland, Rage Against the Machine guitar player Tom Morello, among others, like Doug Grean, DJ Swamp, Ryan “Ryu” Maginn, and Julie Gallios. Antour songs were launched from Tweekend: “Name of the Game,” “Blowout,” “Murder,” and “Wild, Sweet and Cool.”
The year following the launch of Tweekend, The Crystal Method launched a constant mix record based upon the radio show, entitled Community Service. Following the launch of Community Service, Scott and Ken returned to the recording studio to capture their 3rd recording, Legion of Boom.
On April 5, 2005, Scott and Ken launched their follow up to Community Service, termed Community Service II, another constant combination of electronica tracks and remixes of music by performers for Instance, Doors, UNKLE, New Order and Smashing Pumpkins. The record actually peaked at No. 31 on the Very best Independent Albums chart plus a No. 8 ranking on the Digital albums chart.
Scott and Ken continued to prepare and carry out the score for the movie London, which was launched in February 2006. The soundtrack recording contained excerpts from the score, two Crystal Method vocal tracks–“Smoked” in addition to “Glass Breaker,” that were also introduced as a single–and tracks by musicians like Evil Nine, The Out Crowd, along with The Perishers.
After Legion of Boom was launched, the duo started development of the brand new, full sized recording studio in LA–Crystalwerks. Once it was concluded, they started focus on the following record, Divided by Night, followed by a self-titled album in 2014.
Initially planned for a June, 2013, launch, the self-titled The Crystal Method was postponed by an operation to eradicate a cyst in Scott Kirkland’s brain. The record was subsequently reset to be published in January of 2014.
