The Glitch Mob is the name of a 3 piece electronic music group based out of Los Angeles, California. Its members are Josh Mayer (Ooah), Justin Boreta (Boreta) and Ed Ma (edIT).
The trio, originally a 5 piece which included Kitty-D and Kraddy, was established back in 2006 within the burgeoning L.A. bass driven ‘beat’ arena. The Glitch Mob formed an identity by playing live, choosing to execute sounds with MIDI controllers and notebook computers. They’ve won supporters by exhibiting their preferred technologies throughout performance solos gaining interest in Los Angeles and San Francisco, eventually traveling more widely over the Western Seaboard and after that to various festivals world-wide.
The Glitch Mob’s debut record, “Drink The Sea” debuted on the iTunes Electronic Chart at number five and peaked on the CMJ Top 200 Charts for College Radio at the fifty-seventh spot. The recording’s introduction guided Electronic Musician to run a cover narrative about the threesome. Their track “Drive It Like You Stole It” hit #2 for Top Downloads on the XLR8R 2010 list.
Nevertheless, taking influences from rock, rap and trial and error electronic genres, The Glitch Mob have crafted a brand new sort of cutting-edge dance music. Their wicked blend of ferocious bass, sharp drums and intricate melodies has earned them a world-wide fan base which was built from the ground up. What began as a loose association soon caught on as Boreta, Ooah and edIT found themselves often playing the same events, and eventually collaborating during sets. Their live show is a whole re-imagination of the notebook computer DJ paradigm while they move like a seasoned jazz threesome with each member leading the charge at the right moment by adding chords, vocal clips and drum styles into a formidable digital wall of sound.
Exactly what has occurred is the quite unique Glitch Mob aesthetic, mixing the headnod factor of hip hop tempos with outrageous bass lines and microscopic production clippings. Alongside other Los Angeles luminaries such as Daedelus and Flying Lotus, The Glitch Mob have been entrepreneurs for the exploding West-coast instrumental hip hop and digital motion.
