American DJ and producer Wolfgang Gartner began his career under his real name Joseph Youngman, but changed it when he decided to shift away from deep house to electro. His logo—which is a black and white photo of himself with an American flag bandana gag in the mouth—was created by graffiti artist Eric Haze, who had previously designed logos for Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys.
Over the course of the past five years, Gartner has produced eight songs that made it to No. 1 on Beatport, and his single “Wolfgang’s 5th Symphony” became the site’s highest seller of 2009. The following year, his remix of “Funk Nasty” by Andy Caldwell garnered Gartner a Grammy nomination. In 2011, his first full-length Weekend in America hit No. 1 on Beatport and No. 2 on the iTunes Dance Chart. In the same year, he was nominated for Best Electro/Tech House Track, Best Breakthrough DJ, Best Progressive Track, and Best Breakthrough Artist by the International Dance Music Awards. He went on to collaborate with scene leaders such as Deadmau5, Tiestö , and Skrillex. Gartner’s music has appeared in several video games, television shows, and movies.
