Electric Picnic is an arts and music festival that’s been held every year since 2004. Stradbally Hall, in Stradbally County, Laois, Ireland is the venue, and it’s got plenty of awards under its belt, including Beset Medium European Festival by the 2010 European Festival Awards, and Best Big Festival at all four of the most recent Irish Festival Awards.
In fact, Electric Picnic, also simply referred to as “The Picnic”, has widespread acclaim throughout Europe and abroad. It’s been described as an inspiration to Latitude and Ireland’s version of Glastonbury, and Rolling Stone magazine has called it a rock ‘n roll circus, and the perfect example of what a festival should be.
One thing that sets this festival apart from others in Ireland is that the music is quite a bit more eclectic than you’ll find in other places. What once began as a one-day event is now held over three days, and though the official, full 2014 line up has yet to be announced, we do know several acts that are confirmed: Fatboy Slim, Arctic Monkeys, Bjork, Robert Plant, My Bloody Valentine, Two Door Cinema Club, Ellie Goulding, and the Eels.
