Released by Columbia records on 26 October, 2012, “18 months” is the third studio album released by Scottish music producer and DJ, Adam Richard Wiles aka Calvin Harris. After the success of his second album “Ready for the Weekend” released in 2009, 18 months is the second consecutive hit album by Calvin Harris to have earned him top spots in the UK Album charts.
Though Calvin Harris is better known in the United Kingdom, he gained international recognition from his two songs, “We Found Love” feat Rihanna and “Feels So Close” released in 2011.
The album “18 months” features fifteen tracks including six singles featuring collaborations with some of the most popular artists. “Bounce” feat Kelis was released as the album’s lead single, the track peaked at the number two position in the UK.
“Feels So Close”, was the second released single of the album that also peaked at number two position in the United Kingdom. According to DJ Calvin Harris, “I can’t remember the last time guitars were in dance music like that. Also, it’s all real instruments. Nothing’s fake there in Feels So Close: its real music, real melody and actual emotion.”
The song was a massive hit and peaked at the number one position in Scotland. This was also Calvin’s first solo single track that reached the number twelve position on the “Billboard Hot 100” in the US.
“Let’s Go” feat Ne-Yo was released as the album’s third single. The track was also used as a TV advertisement for Pepsi Max. “Will Be Coming Back” feat Example was released as the album’s fourth single and it also peaked at number two position in the charts.
The fifth single of the album “Sweet Nothing” featuring Florence Welch was released in October, 2012. This single, unlike its predecessors, topped the UK charts. The song became the first song from the album that successfully reached the number one position on the UK charts. However, on the “U.S Hot 100” the song only managed to peak at number fifty eight.
“Drinking From the Bottle” is the sixth single of the album that is planned to be released officially in January 2013, but due to mass downloads from the album the song has already gained so much popularity that it managed to reach the number seventeen position in the UK.
The album received mixed reviews from critics, but it surely is a treat for all music lovers especially Calvin’s fans.
