About Howlin’ WolfThe Howlin’ Wolf has the distinction of being one of New Orleans’ finest locally owned and operated venues. Originally named after the famous bluesman Chester Burnett, this club first opened its doors in 1988. While originally housed in a cotton warehouse, the popularity of this special space quickly led to the necessity of a move. It’s now located in a Warehouse District building that was once home to the New Orleans Music Hall.
You don’t even have to walk through the doors to see why this club is so special: The exterior is covered in a mural masterpiece created by artist Michalopoulos. This stunning work is a recreation of several New Orleans neighborhoods and tells the story of the incredible music history in the Big Easy.
Once you get through the doors, take a moment to soak in the bar, which is made out of hand-carved mahogany and was originally built for Al Capone’s Lexington Hotel. The detail work on this piece is extraordinary, right down to the Fluer De Lis.
Howlin’ Wolf has two venues, and there’s something going on virtually every day of the year. Previous acts include Harry Connick Jr., the Foo Fighters, Bare Naked Ladies, MuteMath and Jimmy Page. Burlesque shows are frequently on the calendar, and dance parties happen at least once a month.
