About NEXT DOORNext Door has been voted the best club in which to check out live local bands, and is also one of the favorite Chinatown venues for DJs spinning everything from house to Dubstep. In the past ten years, Chinatown has made quite a resurgence as a Honolulu hotspot, and Next Door was one of the first clubs to enter into the neighborhood to help change revitalize it.
The venue is housed in a vintage building, and the huge open dance area is encased in exposed brick. With a warehouse feel, Next Door brings in a younger, hipper crowed, and hosts visiting DJs from around the world, as well as special events like movie premiers and fashion shows.
Regulars have one complaint about this versatile venue: You never know when it’s going to shut down for months at a time – so be sure to put a call in before you head out. If you do catch them on an open night, you’ll find plenty of seating along the perimeter of the dance floor, as well as VIP sections along the bar and in the balcony.
The ceilings are high, local, quirky art adorns the wall, and laser lights cut through the dim space. The crowd is as eclectic as the music, but those with sensitive ears should bring their plugs – the brick walls increase acoustics and it can get loud.
