About Sullivan RoomA beloved NYC institution, the Sullivan Room in Greenwich Village is a basement dance party which made its bones on being an amazing place to hear the best EDM in the city, and offering an unpretentious, energetic, and fun atmosphere. It’s the sort of place where the music comes first, and the emphasis is on a great party, not great pictures.
The lineup of talent that has graced this unassuming, humble little dance club is pretty stellar: Richie Hawtin, Kaskade, Satoshi Tomiie, Carl Craig, and Goldie, among others. And the residents aren’t too shabby either, including NY icons like Tony Touch, and Jellybean Benitez.
The subterranean space, capacity 400, is centered around the dance floor, flanked on one side by the bar, and on the other by bottle service sections. Bathrooms and more tables are situated behind the DJ booth. Utterly contemptuous of the glam and glitz favored by the jet set crowd, Sullivan’s is a mish mash of faux stone, brick, hardwood floors, velvet, Persian carpets, your grandma’s furniture (weird, ornate, floral patterns on the upholstery), and some truly so-bad-its-kinda-good art adorning the walls. The sound system and lighting setup are both excellent.
The crowd is a mixture of house heads, bass heads, techno enthusiasts, and EDM hipsters. They come to drink, they come to party, and they come to do it late at night. Most nights the shenanigans don’t really get started until after midnight. The atmosphere is DJ driven, rambunctious, and welcoming. Dress code is casual to trendy.
