DJ duo Soul Clap is Charles Levine and Eli Goldstein. They hail from Cambridge, Massachusetts, and have honed their craft for years. They got their start playing tunnel parties at MIT and playing at the Middlesex Lounge and Phoenix Landing. They went from those venues and parties to traveling the world to perform and teach seminars and workshops.
From 2007 to 2010, Levine and Goldstein put together Dancing on the Charles events the American Legion hall in Cambridge. Then, in 2010, they moved to Berlin and then to Miami.
In the past three years, Soul Clap has moved from start-up party DJs and promoters to founding a full-on record label. This process started with Soul Clap’s first full-length album, “EFUNK”, released on Wolf + Lamb. After that, they continued promoting themselves, returning to Cambridge to play at Phoenix Landing again.
Levine and Goldstein – who DJ individually as Elyte and Cnyce – say on their Facebook page that they were destined to play together, that their paths were always meant to cross. They started with their own mixes and remixes, promoting and performing at parties, and now they’re giving a new generation of electro, house, and space funk fusion musicians a chance to flourish.
Soul Clap – in both its incarnations, as a DJ duo and as a record label – is dedicated to vinyl and digging. The label features a lot of vinyl-only tracks, and Soul Clap’s album was designed to be listened to on a single vinyl LP. Look for new and exciting projects in the coming months, including collaborations with Nice ‘n Ripe Records and George Clinton, himself.
These guys are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of house and other electronic genres and to keeping vinyl alive and kicking. Look for them on tour and in the studio.
