Album Review: Random Access Memories by Daft Punk

Daft Punk is known to revolutionize the music industry with technological background music with superb electronic guitar and keyboard sound. Random Access Memories will be the fourth album of Daft Punk after their last album which was released in 2005 which titled “Human After All”. The album received a huge applause and feedback and fans had to pre-book the concert tickets months before their concert. They have a huge fan following list from all over the world who expect this album to be better than the last one.

“Discovery”, which was their first album, received billions of dollars and a huge fan following after it was launched and the tracks also featured short Japanese cartoon stories. Although, this album will be released after 8 years, Daft Punk has been performing in different concerts and their most famous show down was in the hit movie of 2010, Disney’s TRON: Legacy.

This album will be released in UK on 20th May, 2013 and will feature music a bit similar to that in the movie TRON. Study has revealed that the album has a total number of 13 songs and below is the detail of each track.

  1. The first track will be of 4 minutes and 34 seconds with guests appearing in the song are Nile Rodgers and Paul Jackson junior on guitar.
  2. Second track will be instrumental similar to that of “Aerodynamic” in their first album “Discovery”. This will be of 5 minutes and 21 seconds.
  3. The third track is the lengthiest song in this album which is of 9 minutes and 4 seconds featuring Giorgio Moroder.
  4. Their master keyboard artist Gonzales will be seen performing on the Piano and the song duration is 3 minutes and 48 seconds.
  5. This song will be performed by all time favorite Daft Punk singer, Julian Casablancas as a vocalist. Song duration is 5 minutes and 37 seconds.
  6. This particular song has its name leaked out which is titled as “Loose yourself to dance” which will be of 5 minutes and 53 seconds featuring Nile Rodgers on the guitar and Pharrel Williams as a vocalist.
  7. This song is written and performed by Paul Williams and track duration is of 8 minutes and 18 seconds making it second lengthy song in the album.
  8. This track is performed by Pharrel Williams as a vocalist and Nile Rodgers as a guitarist. Duration is 6 minutes and 7 seconds.
  9. Not much is revealed about this song except for the lyrics which are written by Paul Williams. Track timings are 4 minutes and 50 seconds.
  10. This is the second instrumental track with outclass music featuring a techno guitar and piano. Duration is 5 minutes and 41 seconds.
  11. This track is performed by Todd Edwards, a vocalist. Track duration is 4 minutes and 39 seconds.

Daft Punk fans have waited a long time for this album and are expecting it to be a blast after all these years. According to different reviews, this album is a step forward in the music world of Daft Punk and contains music far better than other previous albums.

Swedish House Mafia’s Until One-Album Review

Officially formed in 2008, Swedish House Mafia is a Swedish dance music group consisting of three music producers and House music DJ’s including, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello.  The super group released their first studio album on 22nd September, 2010 under the title, ‘Until One’. The album features twenty-four songs including three singles.

In this debut album, the trio has teamed up with some renowned artists including Laidback Luke, Tinie Tempeh, Sander Van Doom, Candi Staton, Deborah Cox, Steve Angello, AN21, Coldplay, Julie McKnight, Robin S, Mike Snow, Daft Punk and Pharell.

‘Leave the World Behind’ was released in 2009 as the first single of the album. The single showcased collaboration with Laidback Luke featuring Deborah Cox. The song peaked at number thirty-nine in Sweden. ‘One’, the second single of the album, was released in 2010 in the United Kingdom. The song debuted at number seven position. ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’ was released as the third single of the album in 2010.  The song features vocals from an English rapper Tinie Tempah. The song managed to reach the number four position on the UK Singles Chart.

The album received mixed views from music critics. The album peaked at the number two position on the ‘US Top Heatseekers’, number four position on the ‘US Top Electronic Albums’, number eight position on the ‘Dutch Albums Charts, and number six position on the ‘Belgian Albums Charts’.

‘Until One’ is a classical release from Swedish House Mafia. The album serves as an introduction to this super talented group. With this album, the Swedish Dance Music Trio has emerged as one of the best house music groups. The album showcases a spectacular beat driven compilation of tunes fused together. For all the fans of House Music, the album is worth listening to.

Daft Punk: Beyond the Mixing Boards.

The feature length films by the band Daft Punk are as brilliant as they are original and should be discussed more often so that others can experience these extraordinary stories as told by two of the greatest and most influential humans in the history of electronic music.

There aren’t many people that are familiar with the electronic music scene who haven’t heard of the French duo consisting of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. Since the 90s, Daft Punk has created some of the most frequently played and sampled electronic music tracks of all time and as such they have become eternal icons of the genre. Though the band has influenced so many with their music, few have ever heard of the Daft Punk films and even fewer have seen them in their entirety.

Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, was released in 2003. It is based upon the music from Daft Punk’s best-selling album Discovery, which solely acts as the film’s soundtrack. Produced under the supervision of the band’s ‘childhood hero,’ Leiji Matsumoto, Interstella makes for a visually stunning animated science fiction adventure. There is no dialogue in the film outside of the lyrics already within the music and the plot itself is simple, heroic aliens fighting for their freedom while destroying an ancient evil in the process and putting an interesting spin on the way people look at musicians. Just the same, it makes for an enjoyable first or tenth time viewing and is a magnificent alternative to what is already a great album.

Taking a significant departure, Electroma was released in 2006 as a live action film with absolutely no music from the band. Acting as an extension of Bangalter’s prior cinematic talents, the film itself is poetic and dark while the soundtrack, consisting of works from artists such as Brian Eno and Curtis Mayfield, once again speaks for the dialogue-free script. With robots being attacked for pretending to be humans and a never-ending pilgrimage through a barren wasteland, the meaning of the film is meant to be vague and personal to the viewer and as Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo puts it, “It’s more a question than an answer. Some people see it as sad, some as happy. Everyone is different.”

Though vastly unalike, both films take the viewer beyond their previous understanding of Daft Punk’s talents and make for fine additions to any fan’s collection.
